The Attentive Traveler – Restaurant Review – Husk – Savannah, Georgia – January 2023

Continuing our move to the south, we arrive in Savannah, Georgia. Savannah is one of our favorite cities to relax into – the old town atmosphere just fits with peeling the onion and leaving work behind as one heads towards relaxation. The weather is not too shabby either:

After settling in at the Bohemian, we head out for our first night culinary adventure – Husk of Savannah. One of three “Husks” around the United States, Husk Savannah is in the Landmark Historic District. Husk advertises itself as “transforming the essence of Southern food and highlights the unique ingredients of coastal Georgia.”

The menu changes frequently with what the region’s producers provide daily. So no big book… just a simple piece of paper…

We started with a side – the White Lilly Biscuits, with smoked black pepper and Sorghum.

Jackie had the New York Strip, Grilled Escarole, Celeriac, Beef Fat and Meyer Lemon Ponzu.

I had the Scallops, Appalachian Blue Barley, Hakurei Turnips, Sunchokes, & Argula

Of course washed down with some fine vino.

The food was excellent. It was probably one step beyond our foodie comfort level… here’s my rule. Look at the menu again. Count how many things you don’t know “what it is” in each course. We love trying new things… but the number here was just a bit past where we were comfortable. Recommended – you’ll have excellent food prepared excellently. But at least for us Wisconsin hicks… it was just a bit too far of a stretch.
