The Attentive Traveler – Kennedy Space Center – Cape Canaveral, Florida – January 2023

First off – what kind of weather is this for a Central Florida Morning?

With Wind Chill Advisories!

We were joined in Florida by our youngest Samara and her boyfriend Jorian. They decided we should all visit the Kennedy Space Center in Florida – someplace Jackie and I have not been to in some years.

Memories flood back – the image above is one I certainly remember as a big science geek (HUGE Carl Sagan fan!)

Looking good Jorian!

Much is also new (at least relatively). I’d been here a few years back and had a chance to see this… but seeing the Space Shuttle Atlantis is a very cool thing.

I was surprised by how emotional I was in watching the program and seeing the Shuttle again.

Daughter and Mom back together again.

Another building held other exhibits – I found it cool to see the proposals for the future moon mission, along with a Space-X rocket.

Other buildings and areas include a memorial for those lost during our exploration of space, the control room as it was for the Mercury Missions, and the Astronaut Hall of Fame.

I’ll close with local boy (30 miles away in Sparta, Wisconsin – Deke Slayton.

I am very glad that Samara and Jorian chose coming to Kennedy. I would have bet that they would have chosen Universal. But Jorian got a bit of space nerd in him as well. Could have been a bit warmer, but we left with the glow of pride one gets from seeing these remarkable machines – and the remarkable men and women who operate them.
