Lots of interesting places to try in Varenna. We started first with a little Gelato – La Passerella was Jackie’s first taste in Varenna. I think she liked it – could not even get a picture before she had it all gone!
Osteria Quatro Pass was our first dinner. It is a welcoming bistro known for its homemade pasta, lake fish, and meat. It has 18 candlelit tables under picturesque vaults, plus sidewalk seating (when it is not raining!). It’s fun energy lets you know that it’s a popular place.
During our visit to Bellagio, we had a nice coffee and some drinks at the Bar SanSemro.
Right on the lakefront in Varenna, there is a nice row of crowd-pleasing bars for the lakefront seating and opportunity to linger over affordable food in a stunning setting. Each serves salads, sandwiches, pizzas and pastas. Varenna Caffe Bistro, Bar Il Molo, Nilus Bar.
Our final night for dinner we ate at Ristorante al Prato. It is tucked into a small square a block off the harbor – just up the lane from the Hotel du Lac. This little place does regional specialties and international dishes with local ingredients and influences. Chef Giulio’s joy of cooking shows through in the meals, and good-natured owner Giovanni enjoys interacting with the guests. Very Highly Recommended.
