Sometime during an Ireland trip, even if you’re not much of a drinker, you’ll want to tour a whiskey distillery. Of the major distillery tours, the Midelton experience is the most interesting.
After a 10-minute video, you’ll walk with a guide through a great old 18th-century plant on a tour. Different tours take different amount of time – ours took two hours.
We saw waterwheel-powered crankshafts and a 31,000-gallon copper still – the largest of its kind in the world; and learn the story of whiskey. Predictably, you finish in a tasting room and enjoy a free, not-so-wee glass.
