Rick St6eves’ describes the Ebrington Arms as the quintessential neighborhood pub with 21st-century amenities: modern British cuisine, home-brewed beer, an extensive wine list, and friendly (if occasionally slow) service.
We came in on a relatively slow night… or perhaps it was a bit early. Our dinner reservations were for 6:30 PM – there were only two tables taken in the bar at that time.
We were seated promptly, and had our drink orders taken. After a small wait, our food order was taken as well. Jackie and I both ordered the fish and chips.
Unfortunately, the Fish & Chips was not the best. Not a great cut of fish to start, and slightly underdone. The breading was still mealed on the underside. Both of ours appeared to just miss.
And then it got a bit more interesting. 🙂
In the other dining room, there was a boisterous table laughing and talking loudly. Not long afterwards, the staff reseated a foursome who had been near the table and asked to be moved.
So they sat next to us. And wouldn’t you know it – they were loud as well!
They relished each others company, and regaled each other with stories of rugby matches from 40 years ago.
Jackie gave me the look that only can happen after 32 years of marriage – “time to move on”.
So we picked at the fish and ate some chips, collected our bill, and left.
I don’t blame the restaurant too much. With each place climbing out of COVID, they are doing their best with short staffing. But at least on this night – they missed.
We will give them another chance if the opportunity presents itself. Life is too short to let one bad experience blemish a restaurant. But there are many choices in the area.
