Gwynfryn B&B is located dead center in town, a few steps off Lancaster Square. This is my 2nd visit to Gwynfryn – I visited last time while traveling with Josh but stayed in a different room. A room for a single guy. This time I upgraded to a suite in the main house more in keeping with Jackie standards. 🙂
There are only four rooms in the main house. Our was bright and airy, and eclectic. See the chandelier in the first picture? I must have hit my head on it a hundred times. 🙂
I also neglected to get a picture of the bathroom. It had a shower , and although small for American Hotel Standards, it was quite the normal for UK standards. You can see that the main tub for soaking was out in the main room. Although I did not use it – and at my age I may need to be a gymnast to get into it – it looks like a great soaker!
In the old chapel next door, they’ve converted the vestry into four utilitarian, less-charming but well designed and comfortable rooms. That is where I stayed last time. The main part of the church, with pews and a big organ looming overhead, is now a striking breakfast room and a bar in the evening.
The real joy of this visit was getting a chance to visit with Colin and a little with Monica. Monica was around during the day and morning watering the flowers. I shared with her about meeting her brother Jed… she rolled her eyes but had a twinkle in her eye for her brother. Colin runs much of the day to day – he is there when you have breakfast and there when you have a drink later. During my first visit he was quiet – almost a bit shy. This time he was still quiet, but comfortable. The room Jackie and I were in did not really have a place for me to work, so if the weather was nice I’d sit outside. More often than not in Wales that does not work out… so I’d do into the Chapel when they were getting breakfast ready.
Strongly suggested for a great home base in Conwy. Contact them at info@gwynfrynbandb.co.uk. This takes us thru day 9 of 24 – we’re off next to the Lakes District – the land of Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, and incredible scenery and hiking!
