The Attentive Traveler – Restaurant Review – Edinburgh, Scotland – Devil’s Advocate

On our arrival evening in Edinburgh, we decided to take a stroll on the Royal Mile and take in dinner at Devil’s Advocate.

Devil’s Advocate is a popular gastropub that hides down a narrow lane called Advocates Close, directly across the Royal Mile from St. Giles. Popular as in you are assigned your table not only at a certain time… for for a period of time (in our case – 90 minutes).

With an old cellar setting – exposed stone and heavy beams – done up in modern style, it feels like a mix of old and new Edinburgh.

Creative whiskey cocktails kick off a menu that dares to be adventurous, but with a respect for Scottish tradition.

This is the Rump Filet Steak. Aged 28 days… up to this point it was the best steak I’ve had in the U.K. 🙂 A bit overdone – they missed “Medium Rare Plus” a bit on the overdone side…

Jackie had the chicken wings.. (I know… I know…)

Life is too short to skip dessert.

We overall really liked the Devil’s Advocate. For being right in the most touristy part of Edinburgh, it did not feel touristy. It felt just classy enough to enjoy the time with your partner. I’ll bet it would be a great place for a date as well. Drinks were interesting enough to try a couple – food was a shade better than I had expected. Highly Suggested.
