When in Rome…. When in England…. do afternoon tea. 🙂
I have been looking forward to this lunch for a long time…
As background… my girls (wife, both daughters) are not what one would call “good eaters”. Not that I am the shining example of a wide pallet (what is it with Avocados anyway…), but comparatively I have a huge pallet. I have been looking forward to getting Jackie at afternoon tea… with that three tiered food-fest brought over… and not really knowing what the heck you are eating? Are you brave enough to try? Most are… but if you are a picky eater… maybe not-so-much. 🙂
The Pump Room, the elegant Georgian hall just above the Roman Baths, offers visitors their best chance to raise a pinky in Neoclassical grandeur. That was what I was aiming for… the grandness of a place (then Princess Elizabeth enjoyed the food, tea and water in the 1940s here). It is high brow. Above the clock on one end of the room, one finds a statue of Beau Nash, who was the mouthpiece that made Bath the aristocratic playground in the 1700s – as Rick Steves would say, he almost sniffles down at you.
Jackie and I took the opportunity to check this out… and had some fun (at least I think so) while doing so. Only disappointment – we could not get one of the waiters on camera to describe what we were actually eating… THAT would have been funny. Here is part 1: (might be a bit hard to hear at times…)
You can come in for tea or a light meal or try a famous “Bath Bun” (we had one this morning – light and very tasty for its size!). You can also get a glass of the spa water (the same water that’s in the fountain at the end of the bath tour that we’ll see tomorrow.
Here is part 2 of our wonderful lunch:
If you can’t tell… (sorry it is a bit hard to hear)… we had a blast. I’d strongly suggest that everyone – during their first visit to England – have afternoon Tea. I can’t think of a better place to enjoy Afternoon Tea… then the Pump Room in Bath, England.
Excellent video quality! Audo is difficult to hear. Great video to experience the visual qualities of Bath and the The Pump Room!
