The Attentive Traveler – Edinburgh, Scotland – Restaurant Review – The Old Bell Inn

The Old Bell Inn is what one thinks of when you say “British Pub”. It has an old-time sports-bar ambience – lots of fishing and horse items on the walls, and it has more TV’s than I experienced around the UK.

This was especially appreciated as we took in a World Cup Qualifier that Scotland was hosting. The end result did not go Scotland’s way.. but the atmosphere was still fantastic!

The Old Bell Inn serves an extensive menu of pub meals with daily specials. I had a nice slab of ham with a fried egg – not something I would normally have ordered but it was quite tasty!

This is a classic “snug-pub” – all dark woods and brass beer taps, littered with evocative knickknacks. One feature that is common throughout the U.K. is their welcoming atmosphere for pets… Every bar always seemed to have a number of dogs lying under tables and entertaining friends. The Old Bell Inn was no exception… Jackie made a good friend while enjoying her dinner, a pint, and cheering on the home squad. 🙂
