Jackie and I love Savannah. It fits us. Perhaps it is the age of its historic district – it was not destroyed during the civil war – instead, it was presented as a gift to President Lincoln. Whatever the reason, any chance to visit Savannah is grasped.
The old city is dotted on a regular plan by delightful squares. All are historic. Many are tree and bench filled with a statue or two. A few are turned into areas for business, art, or recreation. All are enjoyable to settle into and watch people wander by.
The old town leads away from the waterfront. The streets grow smaller as they move away from the waterfront and into the more residential areas.
At the waterfront, cobblestone streets add to the ambiance of this significant riverfront town. Our hotel – the Bohemian – is the last building on the right.
When I said significant river town I mean it. Ocean going vessels ply these waters to load or unload items mostly from Europe and Africa.
We’ve never tired during our visits to Savannah. We believe you will enjoy it as well.
