Oban brags that it is the “seafood capital of Scotland,” and indeed its sit-down restaurants are renouwned for their quality for such a small town.
These restaurants fill up quickly – I was unable to get into most back in August with no reservations. So you’ll want a reservation for any of the better known in Oban. I booked ahead, and got Jackie and I a reservation at Ee’usk.
Ee’usk (Scottish Gaelic for “fish”) is a popular, stylish, seafood place right on the waterfront. It has a casual-chic, yacht-clubby atmosphere, with a bright and glassy interior and sweeping views on three sides.
It is a fun place for watching the ferries come and go.
I did a pretty poor job collecting good pictures of this restaurant – taking a picture of the cover of the menu but not what is inside is pretty weak. So is getting a picture of my salad but not the main course. Grrr.. Needless to say, Jackie had Seabass (pictured) and I had scallops and prawns. Both were well prepared, but there was a lack of seasoning. Perhaps the restaurant was selling the quality and freshness of the product… but it did make for a rather unremarkable meal. Good… but unremarkable. But you really could not beat the view… give it a try – would not bring children (not the right mood), but great for couples.
