This cute little village packs a scenic mountain punch with the tourist crowds.
Beddgelert (say it with me… BETH -geh-lert) is a cluster of stone houses lining a babbling brook in the shadow of Mount Snowdon and her sisters.
The stony homes, surrounding a stony bridge, seem to rise straight up from the Welsh landscape.
Cute as a hobbit, Beddgelert will have you looking for The Shire around the next bend.
Beddgelert is the ideal stop for those wanting to experience the peace of Snowdonia.
We took a stroll along the river and followed signs to “Gelert’s Grave: (Beddgelert in Welsh). After wandering across the sheep filled (and their droppings) field for about 10 minutes, we came to a small grove of trees in a field market the spot where the 13th-century Prince Gelert honored the dog, Gelert, who saved his infant son from a wolf attack.
If you read the end of the stone… it’s actually a pretty sad story… a bit of a distance away is a open top structure with a wolf inside to remember the incident.
This is a really special place. If you are ever in the neighborhood… give it a look. 🙂
